Postmodern Music Video (Written): Sia.

The following on this post is what text/ information will be included on my video on Sia.

Homage-

• ·         Sweet Design- Homage to Sisqo’s Thong Song.
• ·         California Dreamin’ – Homage to The Mamas & The Papas’ California Dreamin’
•       Unforgettable- Homage/ Pastiche to Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable

The songs above are only a handful of songs in which Sia has used samples for, on her own music. She uses samples from a variety of different genres, to enhance her own music. 

Bricolage- 

There could be bricolage when Sia uses samples of others' music as she samples music from artists and songs of a different genre to hers and she is using samples of those different genres to create her own work. Also, Sia does covers of songs too such as:

• 'How deep is your love' by The Bee Gees
• 'Gimme more' by Britney Spears
• 'Let me love you' by Ne-Yo
• 'Loved me back to life' by Celine Doin
• 'Oh father' by Madonna
• 'Diamonds' by Rihanna
• 'I go to sleep' by The Pretenders 

This could be seen as bricolage as she covers songs that are out of her genre. Sia also wrote the lyrics for Rihanna's 'Diamond'. 

Parody- 

Sia voiced in South Park's 18th season. She portrayed Lorde in a parody song called 'Push'. 

Simulacrum- Sia does have a certain character which she portrays to the public, it is unusual but not as unusual as someone such as Lady Ga Ga, her character aids her sounds of her work and in a way it helps her work become more 'unique'. Her father was a musician and her mother was a art lecturer, and you could say that she is a mix between the two areas as she writes and sings but her music videos could also be seen as artistic. As a child, Sia stated that she liked to imitate the performing style of Aretha Franklin, Sting and also Stevie wonder, who she says were her early influences. 

Creation- Sia is a songwriter, not only for her own work, but she also writes songs for other artists such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Kylie Minogue and many others. She also sings in her own songs for her own albums, features in other artists' songs & sings songs for movies such as Finding Dory and Annie (2014).
